With changes in the law brought in by HMRC it makes it impossible to run my business in the way we have for years.
I could spend time bitching and moaning about it but I’ve chosen to focus on finding a solution.
The first step is in being open to the possibility that the current modus operandi is “broken”.
If I take that as a possibility and say “OK, for the same turnover, in the past, we (the industry) were making 20%+ profit, now, that has eroded to around 5%.” But, I’m convinced that the answer is not in working harder, but in working ‘cleverer’! Not in putting in more hours or in marketing more or in increasing prices, but in implementing systems that make us more effective, more streamlined – “polishing the rivels” – on a plane wing – reducing drag – eliminating waste
Waste can manifest as excess inventory in some cases, extraneous processing steps in other cases, and defective products in yet other cases. All these “waste” elements intertwine with each other to create more waste, eventually impacting the management of the corporation itself.
